Critiquing Photography

For this assignment, I think this is my most successful image because it leaves much up to interpretation. I wanted to use props and old clothes to bring a vintage feel to the photo. I also wanted her face to be somewhat hidden, so you don't know entirely what she looks like. The uncertainty and somewhat randomness of the dead flowers and the little rabbit allows viewers to make up their own story surrounding this photo.

The most challenging aspect of this assignment was to assign photos to a certain category and to truly understand what characteristics each category has. I liked the challenge of brainstorming what could fit where, but it took me a bit to get to a sort of understanding.

In the future, I want to be able to expand my creativity to make stronger images. Using more props, different lighting, and creating more of a story behind my photographs is something I want to work on! I also would like to get more familiar with my camera's settings and adjust shutter speed and experiment more with the images I can create.

"This picture is a really great example of an aesthetically evaluative photo! The difference between the deeper blue color in the background of the picture and the greenish-blue color of the water in the mid-ground accentuates the picturesque quality at this location. Additionally, the angle of the photo (taken from above) also really helps to capture a wide view of the natural beauty of the water and mountains at Channel Islands National Park. Its a very serene picture. I also found the descriptive photo classification difficult, but I think the photo you used was also a good example. If I were to suggest anything to enhance this photo, I would say maybe to take it at a different time of day where there is less of a shadow casting over the water. Other than that, this is great work!"
